Two talented newspapermen, Parke Rouse, Jr. and Wilford Kale come together through a compilation of fifty-two vignettes to tell the story of this diverse community over its first four centuries. Author Parke Rouse, Jr. who began his career as reporter and editor, wrote most of these accounts over a thirty-year period. Editor Wilford Kale who also spent more than twenty-five years in the newspaper business as reporter and bureau chief, compiled and edited these vignettes and wrote several new ones to help complete the Hampton saga. Together, they share some of the stories of this longtime Virginia community with affection and historical perspective.
